November 7, 2020 @ 9:00 am - 12:00 pm
On any given night, there are more than 330 (2019 Point-in-Time Count) homeless men, women, and children in shelters and on the streets in the River Region. The River Region’s homeless population includes veterans, individuals suffering from mental illness or substance abuse disorders, unaccompanied youth, survivors of domestic violence, as well as families and children.
In conjunction with National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week (observed Saturday, November 14, 2020 to Sunday, November 22, 2020), the Mid-Alabama Coalition for the Homeless (MACH) is conducting its annual Blanket Drive campaign.
During the month of November (see dates below), MACH will place PODS temporary storage container units at strategic locations (see locations below) in Montgomery to serve as collection points for new and gently used blankets, coats, hats, scarves, gloves, and winter wear. Donations are distributed to the community’s (sheltered and unsheltered) homeless population during the winter months, and in January during MACH’s annual Point-in-Time Count (HUD required homeless enumeration to be conducted Tuesday, January 26, 2021).
