MACH events are designed to meet the needs of the homeless in our community in a tangible way. These events bring together MACH’s member agencies and other community supporters to provide much-needed resources. The Blanket Drive is held each year to collect items that will be used by those living on the streets, in vehicles, in abandoned houses, and in shelters. MACH can accept all sizes and types of blankets and also appreciates donations of coats, hats, gloves and other winter items. Socks are also helpful year round. The River Region Connects event is MACH’s largest annual event and offers a wide-range of important services and supports. The event removes the transportation barrier by bringing all of these services under one roof for the convenience of the homeless clients. MACH welcomes new agency partners who would like to be involved in either event.

Blanket Drive

Each November, MACH places PODS storage containers, manned by volunteers, at strategic locations around Montgomery to serve as collection points for new and gently used blankets, coats, socks, hats, and other winter wear. Various local businesses and organizations also volunteer to place boxes out for collection in public places throughout the River Region. Blankets and clothing are distributed during the annual street count, through MACH’s member agencies, and by the Street Outreach Worker. In 2014, over 6,000 items were collected. Schools, churches, businesses, clubs, and organizations are welcome to collect items during the drive or any time of the year. Contact the MACH office to learn more about starting your own drive.

River Region Connects

River Region Connects is a homeless resource fair which serves as a one-day, one-stop shop of services for the homeless. Representatives from government and community agencies bring their services under one roof to assist homeless individuals and families with finding shelter, employment, education, health care, legal assistance, and other support. On July 12, 2014, MACH served almost 200 individuals at its fifth annual RRC event. 40+ received free state IDs. 70+ received free haircuts
